Add an Advanced Question: Objectives, Skills, or Training

🎯 What are advanced questions used for?

Advanced questions allow you to go beyond simple comments or ratings.

They connect the review directly with Zest’s key modules:

  • Objectives → performance / OKR tracking and setting new objectives
  • Skills → tracking and evaluating hard and soft skills
  • Training → expressing and tracking development needs

➕ How to add an advanced question?

  1. In the review template, click “Add an advanced question.”
  1. Choose the type: Objective, Skill, or Training.
  1. Configure the options according to your needs (mandatory or optional, instructions, visibility, etc.).
  1. Save: the question will be integrated into the review and linked to the corresponding module.

🔎 Types of advanced questions

1. Objectives

  • Allows you to create, track, or evaluate objectives (progress %, status, closed as achieved / not achieved).
  • Can be completed by the employee (self-assessment) or the contributor (final assessment).
  • Possibility to use tags to organize objectives (current or performance-related).

2. Skills

  • Allows self-assessment or manager assessment of a skill (level, progress, status).
  • Directly impacts the employee’s skills profile.
  • Can be commented on by the manager / contributor.

⇒ To learn more, see this article

3. Training

  • Two available options:
    • Training requests (list or multiple choice) → the employee submits their needs.
    • Training evaluation → the manager or HR reviews and prioritizes the requests.
  • Provides visibility into team development needs.

📌 Best practices

  • Limit the number of advanced questions whenever possible to keep the review smooth and easy to complete
  • Use Objectives in annual reviews
  • Use Training requests and Skills in development or career reviews (professional reviews)
